XIAOXIN IRIS YAO

Biography

I obtained my PhD and post-doctoral training in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at The University of Hong Kong (HKU). Currently I work at Sun Yat-sen University as an associate professor.

My doctoral research is on multivariate multilevel modelling of population well-being, leveraging three population-based cohorts – the FAMILY Cohort (Hong Kong), NESARC Cohort (US), and Understanding Society (UK). I have experience in a range of advanced statistical and epidemiological methods. These include the development of environment-wide association studies (EWAS) into a multivariate (i.e. multiple outcomes) strategy, and the development of the multivariate multilevel modelling into propensity scores in conjunction with the Difference-in-Difference model. I was also involved in the design, analysis, or project management of epidemiological studies on cancer, genetics, and microbiome. Our work on reporting guidelines in propensity score analysis has been listed in the EQUATOR Network (Enhancing the QUAlity and Transparency Of health Research).
